The aim of this site is to provide individual member clubs with useful information about their fellow clubs, the district's structure including its directors and zone chairmen and to assist in the development of their own websites.In addition it is a showcase to non-members who may be interested in learning more about Lions International and may wish to join the organisation. It’s the time of year when clubs who wish to participate in this year’s Young Ambassador Competition should be seeking a candidate to enter this prestigious event.

I do have entry forms, but if you wish they may be downloaded from the internet, but I am only too happy to forward the forms onto you. The closing date the entry forms have to be back with me is 1st November 2009.

District 105C Final will take place early January 2010, but I will confirm the date and venue for this event in the next newsletter.

YOUNG AMBASSADOR

Who is our market and why?

Our market is young people already working in the community.Young Ambassadors" Award is an opportunity for Lions to become involved with the youth in our local community.By recognising young people's community work, we raise the profile of young people and Lions.It is a way of cultivating younger members for the future either via Leos or straight into Lions Clubs.

What is our age group and where are these young people ?

Entrants must have reached their 15th Birthday ,but not their 19th Birthday, on or before 30th June 2008 (see Club Youth Officers Guide.) They can be found in : Schools and Colleges; Youth Clubs; Scouts, Churches; Army, Navy and Air Cadets; Boys and Girls Brigade; P H A B Clubs(Physically Handicapped-Able Bodied); St Johns Ambulance; Community Action Groups; Local Authority youth and community officers and anywhere else where young people are to be found.

Young Ambassadors Award Officer

Many clubs already have an officer to look after this intiative. Incoming Presidents of clubs who do not have an officer should consider appointing one to their team.This officer can handle the promotion, talk to schools and other organisations and liase with their Zone Chairman and Janet Weatherill as needed.

Promotion

Approach your local newspaper"s editorial or features department for an information piece about Young Ambassadors"Award: do not forget to include a contact telephone number in your article.

  • School circulation lists via the Local Education Authority
  • Posters are available from Janet Weatherill which can be displayed in the local library and sent to the organisations listed above where young people can be found.

Registration

Entries must be registered with Janet Weatherill by 11th October 2007. There is a registration fee for the Young Ambassador Award of £20, which should be paid to the District Treasurer.

Competitions

  1. By end of October, club competitions should have taken place and nominations put forward for the Region Final,
  2. By end of November .winners from clubs should take part in a Region Final to be organised by Region Chairman , Zone Chairman with Youth Chairman
  3. The District Final will take place in January 2008 .when qualifiers will be invited to make a presentation to judges ,parents, friends and
    supporting Lions.
  4. The winner will go forward to the Multiple District Final ,which is being held in February weekend 15th -17th 2008 at The Village Hotel Dudley. Please make sure your candidate have this date free and are able to attend. It is a residential weekend in the Midlands. All expenses for the candidate are paid for by the Lions. The candidate is also expected to speak at the 105C Convention.

Incentives, Bursaries etc

  • The Multiple District will pay the MD winner £1,500 to be used to run their community work or educate those within it. They also hold a Rose Bowl for the year .
  • An invitation to the MDConvention that year all expenses paid.
  • An invitation to the MDInternational Youth Centre of that year, all expenses paid.
  • The runners -up will each receive a bursary of £500 to be used for their community work or to educate those within it, together with such
    prizes as may be allocated by the District concerned.
