District 105C Young Ambassador Finals

This year we had 3 candidates in the District Final held on Saturday 14th of January 2012. I wish to thank all those Lions, family and friends who supported the Young People. We had 60 people attending so thanks to you all once again.

It was amazing listening to each Young Person talking about the amount of service they give to their local communities.

The three Clubs who sponsored Young Ambassadors were Mexborough, Selby and Thorne Rural. My thanks to those Clubs.

The Judges had great difficulty and spent a great deal of time on their deliberations deciding who would go forward to the Multiple District Final. Eventually they declared Daniel Newton (sponsored by Thorne Rural Lions Club) would represent District C.

We wish Daniel an enjoyable and successful weekend at Dudley in February 2012.

Region 5 Working Together Once Again

For the third year running Clubs in Region 5 made a donation to The Humberside Police Lifestyle Project for 2011 – this year the amount was £2,500. This meant that two of the teams chosen to go on an Adventure weekend to Wales in 2012 were sponsored by The Lions of East Yorkshire.
Representatives of the Clubs went to the Presentation night and all were amazed at what the young people managed to achieve during the Summer holidays. Teams of 4 – 6 work together on their chosen project during the holidays – the projects are many and varied but they all make a difference to the community and many of them echo what The Lions try to do – help those less fortunate than themselves.
May I take this opportunity of thanking all the clubs in Region 5 for their generous donations in 2011 and I hope we can do just as well in 2012.

Thank you,
PDG Lion Eileen Smith

Five Nations Football tournament

Round two of the 5 Nations took place on 8th October with Tickhill beating Wiggington ( York Minster ) 3-0 on a wet and miserable day.
The District 105CFinal took place on 9th November between Tickhill and Selby.
With both teams having a full fixture list the match was played at Harworth Sports Club under floodlight, a real treat for both teams.
Tickhill ran out rather easy winners 9-0 with J.Reasbeck scoring a hat trick. Selby to their credit kept their heads up and battled to the end. Both teams enjoyed hot dogs and chips after the game.
