Planting a Million Trees

Planting a Million Trees?

Many of you will have seen details on LCI website of International President Tam’s campaign to plant 1 million Trees worldwide. Some of you may even be asking - Why Trees?

It’s no secret that trees help the environment, but you may be surprised at all the benefits that planting a tree can provide. Trees are the lungs of the planet. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. They reduce erosion to save soil, help preserve local water sources, and provide habitat for wildlife. Simply by planting trees in your neighbourhood really is the best thing you can do for the environment.

Million trees presentation

Anyone can plant a tree whether it is a seed, cutting, whip or sapling it’s a perfect hands on project that you can involve all the community in.  Try and involve the youth in your community to help. The Scouts, Guides, Boys and Girls Brigade, Youth Clubs, Young Leaders in Service are all looking for projects to become involved with. What better way to engage our youth than in planting trees.

I was asked by International President Tam to pledge how many trees District 105C will plant and I pledged 1000 (see below). I have now asked Club presidents to pledge how many trees they will plant this year and I will publish this list in the Newsletter and on the web site. As your clubs reports how many trees they have planted on their monthly activities report I will update the list so you can all see the progress the District has made. I hope that we will far exceed this pledge but to achieve this I need your help.
