St Dunstan’s has now become Blind Veterans UK

St Dunstan’s have a new name and new look that gives a clear message about who they are and what they do.
Almost 100 years on since they were founded in 1915 growing numbers of ex Service men and women still need their help, including sadly a number of younger service personnel from recent and ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Blind Veterans UK will deliver the same high quality care and the new name will make it much easier for those veterans who need their services to become aware of the existence of the only organization that is specifically committed to improving their quality of life. The increase in beneficiaries means that there is an urgent need for more people to understand - and support – their life-changing work.
This is another reason for the name change; it clearly describes what they do, who they help and why they need more people to support the blind veterans that rely on them.
They have thought long and hard about what they are all about, spoken with their members, staff, supporters and potential supporters and did months of research into what makes them special – and the new identity captures this perfectly.
Not enough people are aware of them and there are many other organizations that are called St Dunstan’s, including churches, schools, colleges, therapists and dentists – there is a need for them to stand out - so they have updated their whole brand in order that their purpose is clear, simple to understand and easy to remember.
LCI MD 105’s Partnership with Blind Veterans UK (formerly St Dunstan’s) continues unaltered and we shall work together to alleviate the challenges facing all our ex Service men and women with sight related difficulties – some of whom may well be our own Club members or their family members/friends.
so please make all your fellow Lions aware of this change of name and the continuing potential of Blind Veterans UK to ensure that there is “Life beyond sight loss”.

Yours in Lionism
PDG Lion Evan Wm Jones

Specialist pages

These pages deal with various health issues which are tackled locally, nationally and internationally by Lions members.

Fundraising is only one aspect of tackling a problem. Lions International is organised not only to fundraise from those who are willing and able but to ensure that any aid is distributed fairly, efficently and to those most in need.

In many parts of the world, health issues contribute to the poverty of the people who live there and poverty prevents them from escaping those ills.

Signature Projects

Do you want to increase your membership?

The Signature Projects are part of a key membership drive!

Past International Director Phil Nathan explains –

"Our Signature on Our Community" Signature projects are not a new idea but they can easily be a legacy. Back in 2002 then International President K K Fukushima encouraged clubs to put a "stamp" on their community by doing something that everyone would recognise as a Lions "stamp". In MD105 we have so many varying "stamps"; it may be a Lions emblem made from flower bulbs planted in the local park or something as amazing as a hospice. No matter how big or small, many of our clubs have left their signature on their community.

Planting a Million Trees

Planting a Million Trees?

Many of you will have seen details on LCI website of International President Tam’s campaign to plant 1 million Trees worldwide. Some of you may even be asking - Why Trees?

It’s no secret that trees help the environment, but you may be surprised at all the benefits that planting a tree can provide. Trees are the lungs of the planet. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. They reduce erosion to save soil, help preserve local water sources, and provide habitat for wildlife. Simply by planting trees in your neighbourhood really is the best thing you can do for the environment.
