Famine relief in Kenya - local Lions report

DISTRIBUTION FOR LIONS CLUB DISTRICT 411A

On the 9th September 2011 all the packings were completed as follows.

  • 530 Food Packages which contained, 6kg Maize Meal, 4kg Wheat Flour, 2kg Sugar, 2kg Rice, 1kg Salt, 10x50gm Tea leaves, 2ltrs Cooking oil.
  • 200 Famine Packs which contained, 1 Pair Lesso, 1 Pair Slippers, 1 Fa Soap, 200gm Ariel Washing Powders, 150ml Coconut Oil, 1 Pack Sanitary Pads, 1 Comb.
  • 200 Happy Children Pack which contained, 1 Pair Slippers, 1 Exercise Book, 1 Pencil, 1 Sharpener, 2x5pcs Biscuit, 2 Lollipops, 1 Bottle Juice.

On the 10th September 2011 distribution cards were distributed by Shakil, Husayn at the following centers:-

It was agreed with the elders the main distribution centre being Mulanjo on the 11th September 2011.

Lions Team Members with Lion Irshad Sumra arrived at 7pm from Nairobi, loading the final Food Packages on the truck for distribution.

On the 11th September 2011, Governor Murtaza with the Director Manoj Shah and Lion members arrived at 10:15am, immediately after having breakfast they left for the distribution Centre Mulanjo.

At Mulanjo all the five centers people waited patiently for the food packages, the distribution started at 12.30pm with Mulanjo centre recipients first, followed by Iftin, Bara, Farbare and Kurma, all went well with all the Lions members actively giving out the food packages and carrying out the whole activity smoothly.

After the food packages distribution the 200 Famine Packages were given out all these being appreciated very much as they had not received any package before of the kind.

All the children waited patiently to see what they were to receive and having received the first few packages the joy and smile said it all, that they were very happy with what they received. 200 happy packs were given followed by Biscuits, Sweets, and Lollipops to the children.

The elders were also given Gift boxes which surprised them at the great generosity thanking the lions that every family member is to be thought of living memories for them not to forget.

At 4pm the Lions had organized a late lunch at Almond Hotel for all the members with Mr. Shakil and his family. The Governor Murtaza, Director Manoj Shah, Lion Dodia, Lion Sumra all appreciated all the members and Mr. Shakil and his family to make their trip successful, Mr. Shakil appreciated the honor and trust the lions had bestowed on him to be part of them and organize their distribution programme.

The team left Garissa for Nairobi at 5.15pm all with memories which they will treasure for a long time.
