Specialist pages
Specialist pagesThese pages deal with various health issues which are tackled locally, nationally and internationally by Lions members. Fundraising is only one aspect of tackling a problem. Lions International is organised not only to fundraise from those who are willing and able but to ensure that any aid is distributed fairly, efficently and to those most in need. In many parts of the world, health issues contribute to the poverty of the people who live there and poverty prevents them from escaping those ills. |

The new edukit is designed to meet the needs of 40 children and one teacher. This development enables children to have their own set of school materials which they can take home in a durable plastic bag in order to study at home. In addition to the standard classroom supplies, an edukit now contains a solar wind-up radio This additional item will enable children to keep in touch with the outside world and also acts as an invaluable teaching aid. Sport in a Box The UNICEF Sport in a Box kit has proved to be a popular item during emergency situations, allowing up to 90 children to engage in team sports activities, also to interact with each other and have fun. Sport is an effective trauma therapy for the children displaced by war and natural disasters. The kit contains items for teachers and students supplied in a lockable metal box.
LCIFLions Clubs International Foundation LCIF is rich in heritage and pride, we also have a very distinguished history of doing good works for the world. With increasing manmade and natural disasters we need to meet the challenge and give support to our service projects. With the success of Sight First 11 we now need to concentrate more on various projects of LCIF by supporting 1 Contributing Members Pins 2 Designated Donation: is money for a designated Fund e.g. "Earthquakes Appeal" this money is used for that particular appeal only 3 Undesignated donation money goes direct to LCI towards Grants and disasters. 4 MJF’s Any donations should be sent to me with the cheque made out to LCI district 105C with the appeals name on the reverse and I will send it to the appropriate area. I will try and attend as many clubs /zones as possible to give a presentation on LCIF. Please contact me if you have a particular date you would like me to attend. PDG Lion Alan Doble |
Talking NewspapersLions have a proud history of involvement with Talking Newspapers for the blind. A great many of the 600 TNs that currently exist across the Multiple District do so because Lion Members were involved in their being established. But that was all around 30 years ago. That said, there are still about a dozen of theTalking Newspapers that are still run by or bear the name of the Lions Clubs that founded them. We applaud them all. During the past 18 years The Lion Magazine has been made available, albeit spasmodically, in the same format as a Talking Newspaper, but that will change with immediate effect. The Lion is now digital........Each blind and visually impaired Lion that we know of in the Multiple District is to be provided with a new boom box which will play thumbdrives rather than tapes. The downsides to this move are zero. The positives are that quality is considerably improved and a full magazine can be included on one stick. In addition, we will be able to include everything that can be found on both the Multiple District and Lions International web pages. Every District Sight Officer will receive a boombox for demonstration purposes. I invite every Lion President who has any club members who would benefit from receiving the Lion Magazine (or District papers, The Governor’s newsletters and such) in this way, whether they be visually impaired or cannot read for any other reason, to call Lion John May of Lichfield Lions on 07948794982 and a boombox will be provided. Bereavement ProgrammeLIONS - TACADE PARTNERSHIP
“Life Changes-loss, change and bereavement for children aged 3 - 11years old” This will be available to us in March priced at £29.95. Please remember that although, for the first time this programme is not targeted at a subject in the PHSE curriculum it is still the PHSE teachers who are the most likely to assist us with its installation into schools. We should not forget our other excellent programmes. The Tacade brochure supports these as well as the Bereavement Programme. The 2010 brochure will be available from the third week in January and a copy will automatically be sent to each Lion President. Some Clubs have adopted the system of delivering a number of brochures (5 or 10) to the local schools via their Service or Welfare Committee. This has proved a worthwhile exercise, and it is easiest at this time of year. To do it, simply order your required number of brochures from TACADE, Tel: 0161 836 6850. This is definitely a moment for Clubs to be proactive in contacting their local Primary Schools. The success of the Bereavement Programme is very important to the Lions/Tacade Partnership and all those who have worked so long and hard to have it produced. It has principally been written by Lion Margaret Riley, and deserves the support of all Lions. This is an exciting time for us all. Good luck and if you need any assistance you have only to ask me:
LCIF responds to Haiti earthquakeDear Fellow Lions We have all learned a lot more about the extent of the devastation in Haiti. At Lions Clubs International Foundation we have also learned more about the situation on the ground from our Fellow Lions in Haiti. Many of those Lions have been personally affected by this disaster, losing at least two club members as well as many close relatives. Yet they have put aside their own needs in order to help their community. LCIF is working non-stop with the Lions of that area to support Lions Hope for Haiti”.
