Calling Marketers' and Sales People

Immediate Past District Governor Eric Wright has opened a loose grouping for 'ideas men and women' and invites all those with any marketing, sales and promotional experience to contribute suggestions.
"We're not going to form another committee, but we do invite those with entreneurial ideas to join what is likely to be an occasional phone and online forum," he said. "What we really want is to get inventive suggestions from Lions on recruiting new members, forming new clubs and expanding the organisation. We have a lot of well tried and tested methods which serve us well. But we want to 'push the envelope' with ever more creative ideas from people.

"Anyone who wants to can join and we'll never shoot suggestions down. There won't be any meetings or travel involved. But I'd love to hear from Lions who have something to contribute.
Hopefully it will turn into fun and we'll circulate ideas among the whole District. "There is sure to be lots of untapped creative solutions out there. Help us turn on that tap. Please email me in the first instance at my new email address:

Melvin Jones Fellowship

The Melvin Jones Fellowship is the backbone of LCIF, providing 70 percent of the foundation's revenue. A recognition of humanitarian work, an MJF is an honour presented to those who donate US$1,000 to LCIF or to people for whom a donation was made by others. Melvin Jones Fellows receive an attractive lapel pin, a plaque and a congratulatory letter.

Melvin Jones Fellows who make additional US$1,000 donations to LCIF, or in whose name US$1,000 donations are made, become part of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Progressive program. Progressive Melvin Jones Fellows receive a new lapel pin and congratulatory letter for each subsequent US$1,000 donation.

Membership Drive Starts for Skipton

Reviving the fortunes of Skipton and Craven Club was the subject of a meeting held on 10 January in Skipton, the historic gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.

Attending from Skipton and Craven Lions was Derek Evans and from the Global Membership Team were PDG Eric Wright, Zone Chairman David McDowell, Brian Yeoman from the new Bramley and Wickersley Club, John Hall from Bridlington and PRO Nigel Perry.

Skipton and Craven was chartered in 1964 and has long been one of the most succesful and enterprising clubs in the District. But the past few years have taken its toll and the club is now down to just a few members. To ensure the club is not lost to Lions the GMT is formulating plans to revive the club by assisting the Club to attract new Lions.

In our photo at the planning meeting are left to right Derek Evans, Eric Wright, John Hall, David MacDowell and Brian Yeoman.

More Volunteers Doing More Community Work in More Places than Any Other Service Club Organization

When it comes to meeting challenges, the Lions response is simple: “We serve”. In 206 countries, in hospitals and senior centres, in regions battered by natural disaster, in schools and eyeglass recycling centres, Lions are doing community volunteer work, helping, leading, planning and supporting.
Because we're local, we can serve the unique needs of the communities we live in. And because we're global, we can address any challenges that go beyond borders.
