We
are all shocked by the natural disaster that has occurred in Asia affecting
so many countries. As Lions we cannot sit back and watch the story unfold on
TV without doing something. Therefore I am setting up the Asian Disaster
Fund so that we can make a start to help those Lions Clubs on the front
line in the devastated countries. Those Clubs that wish to contribute please
forward your donations to District Treasurer marked 'Asian Disaster'.
I believe the best way to help is through Lions Clubs in the countries concerned and we should use all our contacts to do this. I would ask for any Lions Club who have direct contacts with clubs in the affected area to make contact with Clubs concerned to establish their needs and forward their requirements to Lion Nigel Ware.
PDG Gordon Lazenby will be visiting the area on business in January and will be making direct contact with Clubs that he has been involved with in recent years to look at how we can help them with joint projects.
In
the event that we are not able to disburse funds to properly managed projects
then we will forward the residue to LCIF who will be able to address the long
term needs.
Our help is desperately needed and we must find away to help our fellow Lions in their time of greatest need.
